On Sale at the Event Site
Purchase Wristbands in advance at the Visitor Info Center starting December 15th.The Info Center is located at the corner of South Tryon & MLK Street
Wristbands will go on sale at the event by 10am on New Year’s Eve!
Sales locations will be the Visitor Info Center, The Green, NASCAR Hall of Fame, Outdoor terrace at the Charlotte Convention Center as well as at the main stage. You can purchase your wristband at First Night from 10am-4:00pm and 7-9pm. Adult wristbands are $10.00, children 4 and under are FREE (with a banded adult), and kids 5-12 are $5.00 (with a banded adult).

Grab the kids and ring in the New Year!
First Night Kids is perfect for the entire family, and kicks off First Night Charlotte. Kids of all ages can enjoy the music, dance, theater, history, science and much more. First Night Kids is scheduled between 12 PM and 5 PM with events and performances at NASCAR Hall of Fame, Outdoor terrace of the Charlotte Convention Center, The Green, Bechtler Museum, Mint Museum, and the main stage at Levine Avenue of the Arts.

Fireman Jim’s Safety Show delivers memorable safety practices that are proven to save lives. Utilizing a multi-sensory approach with original music, safety demonstrations, drills, games and stories his audience is engaged in the experience. Fireman Jim incorporates a rhyme, rhythm or song into each lesson that encourages children to participate in the fun.
Chris Thompson & The Cultural Ensemble: The Green Lower Tier: Dance Tent
Dance that includes W African, lyrical, hip hop, tap to live drums. Audience participation. They will have audience members play drums with the group!
Thistledown Tinkers: Bechtler Lobby
Thistledown Tinkers is a traditional Celtic duo that plays high-energy, rowdy Scottish and Irish folk music. They perform all around the Southeast, and we recently featured in a BBC documentary on Celtic music in the U.S. These guys always provide a boot-stompin', kilt-swingin' good time!

Progressive/Traditional Bluegrass band ingredients: Sawyer Whitman 17 yrs. old; Kaitlyn Caldwell 15 yrs. old; Dalton Caldwell 15 yrs. old; Nicholas Seymour 15 yrs. old and Sarah Seymour 12 yrs. old. The roots of this band started in 2005 with the guys (8, 9, 11 yrs. old) . In 2007, they added the girls and the band jelled into a new treat, “Sweetbriar Jam”. Presently, this young and popular bluegrass band makes its way across many stages including opening up for such well acclaimed groups as Doyle Lawson/Quicksilver, The James King Band and the Charlotte Symphony. CD’s include “Sweetbriar Jam” (2008); “In This Old Home Town of Mine” (2009) and “Briar Mountain” (2011).

the Hung Gar Kung Fu Academy will perform traditional Chinese Lion Dance and Kung Fu, which features exotic weapons forms and exciting two person sets. the lion dance is used in all important celabrations in the chinese culture. the lion is known as the King of the Jungle, so if anything evil or bad is in the room when the lions come running in the evil leaves!! the loud drum and qong/ cymbals wakes the lion up and makes the lion want to dance. the chinese lion is always operated by two students, one under the head and one under the tail. lions come in all different bright colors and are made with paper mache over a bamboo frame.

WEATHER
First Night Charlotte 2012 is a rain or shine event. Programming takes place regardless of weather conditions, though it is subject to change. Please remember to check the forecast and wear layered clothing.
BE PREPARED TO WALK
Wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking. First Night Charlotte's footprint stretches over a large area of Uptown and it is important that you and your family stay comfortable while enjoying the event's sights.
GET A SEAT EARLY
Indoor venues have limited seating that will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Seating is not guaranteed, so we encourage you to use our Program Guide to plan your celebration and arrive early for indoor performances. Please remember that food and beverages are not allowed in indoor venues.
WHEELCHAIR ACCESS
All official First Night Charlotte venues are accessible to individuals who use wheelchairs.

Volunteers Needed for First Night Charlotte!
What are your plans for New Year’s Eve?
On Saturday, December 31st, 2011 from 9am-11:30pm (volunteer shift times) you're invited to play a creative role in Uptown Charlotte. More than 50 volunteers, 16 years of age or older, are needed this year to help shine a creative light on Uptown Charlotte’s transformation into an artistic playground. You can help make all this happen by taking part for only a few hours!
Volunteer opportunities include First Night Kids Activities, Wristbands Sales and Checking Wristbands!!! First Night is great for a group or anyone looking to give back and start the New Year off on the right foot!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? This project includes a great amount of standing/walking. For safety reasons, please wear comfortable closed toe shoes. Last year the weather was warm for December but please be prepared and bring a jacket in case of inclement weather
WHAT DO VOLUNTEERS RECIEVE FOR HELPING OUT?All volunteers will receive a green Holidays in the City branded beanie winter hat and green & white scarf as well as a FREE wristband to enjoy the event after your shift is complete!

Ring in the new year with these talented performers!
First Night Evening Activities will take place at The Green from 8-11:00pm!
A World Musical Journey led by Ari Quiroga Nieto (Spanish Guitar) and supported by a cast of World-Class musicians(Bass, Percussion, Tabla, Violin) and elaborately choreographed dancers. Esperanto Group bring
the most out of the Spanish Guitar creating music that is rhythmically and technically complex while also harmonically rich, melodically satisfying and emotionally compelling. Come to The Green: Lower Tier Dance Tent and check him out! Aris will perform from 8-8:30pm, 9-9:30pm and 10-10:30pm.
Also performing at The Green: Lower Tier Dance Tent is the Gay Men's Chorus and Charlotte Pride Band Performances are 8:30pm, 9:30pm and 10:30pm.
Are you ready to dance and have fun? Come to the novelty tent at The Green: Middle Tier! Dance with your friends and family as we celebrate the end of 2011 and the start of 2012. For those wanting to look festive for the midnight countdown we will have crowns for everyone to decorate! Remember the night by getting your picture taken in a photo booth, a flip book of silly pictures taken or sing with friends with our Dance Heads area!
Also performing with 3 30 minute shows from 8:30-11:00pm is Steve Gryb! who is an internationally recognized and innovative award-winning guitarist, multi-percussionist, jazz and contemporary music performer with over 30 years experience entertaining audiences of all ages. Steve will be performing at The Green: Upper Tier. There will be games, fun and more!
Midnight Finale Countdown
It's time to party like it's 2012!! Headline Atlanta Party Band will perform from 10pm-12:30am on the main stage at Levine Avenue of the Arts! This is a dynamic eight piece band. Four singers out front- two girls and two guys plus a four-piece band: keyboards, guitar, drums and saxophone.
The two beautiful ladies on the front-line are excellent vocalists with dance moves to match! The two guys are professional and experienced with incredible singing abilities. They have performed extensively overseas in Asia and Europe as well as touring with Sweet Sinsation, Tommy Paige, The Time, Stevie Wonder, Cameo, Jodece, KC&Jo-Jo and P-Diddy. Their music features all the decades from the swing era to today's hottest hits, with a special emphasis on the great party music of Motown, the seventies and eighties party rock.
Also performing on the main stage from 10pm-12:30am is contemporary hoop dancer, Spiral Part whirling dervish, acrobat, modern dancer, object manipulator, yogi and ninja, Spiral has been on the cutting edge of this emerging movement practice for almost a decade, transforming a child’s toy and fitness tool into an art form. Spiral will be performing at the Mint Plaza: Mez Level!
