OPEN DURING RENOVATION! One of the top hands-on science museums in the nation, Discovery Place provides ever-changing, entertaining facilities that foster experiences in areas that range from life science to space exploration. More than a half-million people from all over the United States visit Discovery Place, its IMAX Dome Theatre and its planetarium each year.

The Charlotte Observer OMNIMAX Theatre: Get ready for a whole new experience and ready to take your senses to the MAX as we play a wide range of exciting films on the largest motion picture screen in the Carolinas. The OMNIMAX Theatre is open during the same hours as the museum, plus we stay open just a little later on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Call the theatre for exact times or see our Showtimes page for more information. Admission for IMAX films is the same as admission for the exhibit halls.

Education: Discovery Place offers a wide array of educational opportunities for students, teachers and families. Each of our departments has developed a number of programs that correspond to North Carolina Science Standards. We can also provide information to you before your trip, so you can prepare to make your visit as valuable as possible. So whether your class is studying the sea, space, the human body or chemistry chances are we have a program to enhance your classroom study. We also offer, on a continual basis, workshops for people of all ages. Each March, June, September and December we begin registration for these workshops that are offered at a variety of days and times. In addition, during the summer we conduct a variety of hands-on science summer camps. Travel to sites in North Carolina and abroad at various times during the year also provides opportunities for fun and learning. In the fall, we travel to the coast and in the early spring to the mountains. Discovery Place also plans educational excursions on an irregular basis.

You can upgrade your membership to become a member of the Discoverers' Society, a group of museum members that plans trips and other special events throughout the year.
