Designed by Thompson, Ventulet, Stainback, and Associates, the Knight Theater will adjoin the Bechtler Museum, sharing a grand plaza at the corner of South Tryon and First Streets.

The design of 1,150 seats provides for artistic grandeur in an intimate setting. The theater will be the primary venue for the North Carolina Dance Theatre, and will feature performances by Opera Carolina and the Charlotte Symphony, as well as musical theater, popular music, touring productions, lectures and film.

A valuable addition to Charlotte's performing venues, the Knight Theater will provide audiences a new and exciting cultural experience, and will allow for great diversity of programming with the Belk Theater, Ovens Auditorium and Booth Playhouse.

Upon entering the facility, patrons will step into a spacious two-tiered lobby with a grand staircase between levels. A "VIP room" will adjoin the pre-function space located on the upper tier at the balcony level of the theater. Additional pre- function space will be provided by a connector leading to the Bechtler Art Museum and by space adjacent to a 350-seat Wachovia auditorium located below the theater lobby.

The Knight Theater will consist of the stage, proscenium, fly tower, orchestra pit, and two levels of seating. Backstage and back-of-house areas will include a warm-up room, a variety of dressing rooms, a performers' lounge, storage areas and general office.
